Biography
Mr. Kebret attended college at UCLA and graduated from the Henry Samueli School of Engineering with a bachelors science (BS) degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Mr. Kebret was a recipient of several scholarships and awards at UCLA, most notably the Hewlett-Packard, Co. (HP) scholarship and summer internship award. While in college and for four years thereafter, Mr. Kebret worked as a software engineer for HP. A career that began with Hewlett-Packard as a mere internship during Mr. Kebret's second (sophomore) year at UCLA morphed into a full-time career opportunity where Mr. Kebret quickly rose to Senior Software Engineer at HP wherein Mr. Kebret managed several complex technical products from beginning to completion.
Mr. Kebret then elected to return to his alma mater, UCLA, to obtain his dual masters degrees in law and business management - Juris Doctorate and Masters in Business Administration (JD/MBA). In law school, Mr. Kebret's studies were concentrated in all areas of intellectual property (e.g., patents, copyrights, trademarks) and corporate law, with a focus in distressed entities and bankruptcy. In business school, Mr. Kebret focused his studies on real estate, entrepreneurship and restructuring distressed organizations. While in business school, Mr. Kebret spent a year assisting a commercial real estate investment bank assess the viability of a new product and introduce the new product to their customer base. Over the course of four years as a UCLA JD/MBA masters student, Mr. Kebret, among others, spent time as a law clerk for a Federal Circuit judge, worked as a technology investment banker where he valuated distressed technology companies, served as an IP consultant to tech start up companies, and chaired several student organizations.
Most recently, Mr. Kebret was a transactional lawyer at one of the largest intellectual property (IP) law firms in the US, Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear, LLP. Over the course of almost two years, Mr. Kebret assisted in the development and execution of worldwide patent and trademark protection strategies for a wide diversity of clients, including startups and larger entities. Mr. Kebret also filed and prosecuted several domestic and international patent and trademark applications in the software, electrical, mechanical and medical device fields. While at Knobbe Martnes, technology and IP licensing as well as all forms of business transactions involving IP were a substantial portion of Mr. Kebret’s practice.
